I Am Kalel was founded in 2024 by Arlene Acero in California, inspired by a pivotal moment during a family vacation in 2023. While on a plane, Arlene’s daughter had a meltdown, and as others looked on, she realized the lack of understanding and education surrounding autism. The experience opened her eyes to how many families, like hers, face challenges that often go unnoticed or misunderstood. Motivated by the need for greater awareness and empathy, Arlene created I Am Kalel—a clothing brand inspired by her daughter—that aims to provide comfort, inclusivity, and support to all families. Through this brand, she strives to foster understanding, while offering clothing that meets the unique needs of children with autism and beyond.
